Vadaine Oliver struck a fine goal but Crewe Alexandra were held 1-1 by Leek Town in their latest pre-season run-out.

Oliver opened the scoring eight minutes before the break when drilling in an angled finish from around 35-yards.

Billy Waters and George Cooper were both then denied by home goalkeeper Ben Chapman, until substitute Liam Shotton took advantage of defensive hesitation to equalise early in the second-half.

Both sides continued to chase a winner, but the visitors' youngsters were in the end forced to settle on a draw.

Crewe are again in action today when taking on Conference Premier outfit Chester at the Deva Stadium.

Crewe Alex: Garratt, Mullarkey, Kearns, Ng, Audel, Jones (Howell, 70), Nolan, Cooper (Johnston, 64), Waters, Molyneux, Oliver (Saunders, 60)

subs (unused): Prichard-Ellis, Shearer, Brown
