Davis disappointed to miss out

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis conceded he was disappointed to miss out on former midfielder James Bailey.

"We were blown out of the water after Doncaster came in" - Steve Davis
The 25-year-old was released by Derby County last month and now appears
set to join Doncaster Rovers.

Bailey originally progressed through the youth system at Gresty Road, until
moving to the Rams in a £1m joint-deal with John Brayford in May 2010.

"It's disappointing that we haven't got him," Davis told the
Crewe Chronicle. "Bailey's in the category of players that we know will improve our squad but, financially, we were blown out of the water after Doncaster came in.

"We set our sights high and undoubtedly we knew we'd miss out on some," he added. "We've dealt with a lack of financial muscle for a while and it's something we just have to compete with against the bigger clubs. We're trying to do the best we can for the money available."
