Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is already resigned to losing defender Matt Tootle even though he expects him to start the season at Gresty Road.

"If anything's going to happen it will be another end of August job" - Steve Davis
The 23-year-old full-back swept the board in the recent player of the season awards but Davis reckons any bids will most likely come at the end of the transfer window in August.

"We haven't had any inquiries and Matt's got another year left on his contract," he told the Stoke Sentinel. "There's nothing going on at the moment with anybody.

"He will come back on Monday for the start of pre-season with everybody else and get ready for the new campaign," Davis added. "If anything's going to happen it will be another end of August job. It can be difficult in that case because it doesn't give you too long to find a replacement, but I think I've got a replacement in the squad anyway."
