Dario Gradi has quashed reports that Cardiff are set to bid for Billy Jones and David Vaughan, suggesting that the Championship outfit can't afford either of the duo.
Cardiff are long-term admirers of the duo, and registered their interest in Jones following Crewe's decision to place the youngster on the transfer list. However, Dario told Cardiff owner Sam Hammam at the time that he couldn't afford the 19-year old.
With Hammam a guest at several of Crewe's recent games, David Vaughan is the latest Crewe player to catch his eye. Cardiff are reported to be hopeful of tieing up a loan move for the Welshman with a view to a permanent deal in January. As with Billy, however, Dario has refuted such suggestions as implausible, claiming once again that Cardiff can't afford him.
