Reported Interest in Varney

The Daily Mirror are reporting that Aston Villa, Portsmouth and Southampton are leading the chase for Crewe forward Luke Varney, whilst Bolton have also been mooted as possible suitors of the 24-year old.

Varney's performances this season have been highly impressive, with Steve Claridge offering a generous appraisal of the striker in the Guardian last weekend. However, whether there is any truth in such rumours is highly questionable.

True or not, the stories reflect the vast improvement in Varney's form this season, with the forward contributing 6 goals and 6 assists so far this season.
