Crewe's academy graduate Billy Jones has rejected a contract and intends to see out his contract in order to leave for peanuts next summer. As Jones is just 19 Crewe will be entitled to compensation for the youngster should he leave on a Bosman next summer. Should that occur, either Crewe will have to agree a compensation package with another club, albeit a much reduced one, or the issue will be resolved by a tribunal who have a record of granting derisory sums of compensation.
Jones joined the club at an early age and the club have invested a lot of time into the youngster. Billy, who has featured for every level of England's youth set up in recent years, is widely thought of as the best player from his particular age group, so his actions will be severely harmful to the club who survive by selling players like Jones on for a good fee, and Jones is well aware of that.
However, having got what he needs out of the club, he has decided to leave the club as soon as possible, regardless of the consequences that has on the club. His father has allegedly had a large infleunce on the decision, though Dario remains hopeful that Billy may still sign a new contract, and would still allow him to leave in January.
Billy has made 110 appearances for the club, scoring 9 goals in the process. Manchester City, amongst others, are sure to be alerted by the news. Vital Crewe brought you news of Man City's interest and Billy's reluctance to sign a new deal yesterday: Pearce Eyeing Brassy Billy
