Midfielder reveals collapsed Crewe deal

Former Scunthorpe United midfielder Josh Walker has revealed he recently missed out on a move to Crewe Alexandra.

"When the Crewe move fell through at the last minute I looked at the other options available" - Josh Walker
The 24-year-old is instead returning to his north-east roots and joining Conference side Gateshead after previously spending time with both Middlesbrough and Watford.

"I had options to stay in League One and other offers and it looked a foregone conclusion that I was going to Crewe," Walker told Gateshead's official website. "I had come to see Anth [Smith] earlier in the summer for a chat about joining Gateshead and to have a look around the facilities.

"I was impressed with what he had to say and with the facilities, which are excellent, and match the Championship," he continued. "When the Crewe move fell through at the last minute I looked at the other options available but the opportunity to come home was too good to turn down."
