Skipper Luke Murphy's spectacular goal in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley has been voted as the best goal of the competition last season.

"It was certainly one of the best and most important goals of my career so far" - Luke Murphy
Murphy struck an early opener as the Alex defeated League Two opponents Southend United 2-0 at the national stadium in early April.

The 23-year-old midfielder was one of ten players shortlisted for the award and he then proceeded to claim almost half of the public vote.

"We worked on the corner routine a lot in the build-up to the final, and for it to come off at Wembley in such a big game was a real bonus," Murphy told Crewe's official website. "It was certainly one of the best and most important goals of my career so far."
