Defender Jon Guthrie is keen to make his mark at Crewe Alexandra after securing himself a new deal at Gresty Road .

"I was told that it was time for me to try and get more games with the first team" - Jon Guthrie
The 20-year-old accepted the offer of a new one-year contract this week despite him missing the final months of the season following a hernia operation.

"We had to go in for one-on-one meetings with the manager and it was horrible to be honest," Guthrie revealed to the Gazette & Herald. "It was nerve-wracking because the meeting would decide your future and I was unsure what was going to happen.

"I was told that they didn't want me to just be playing for the U21s next year and that it was time for me to try and get more games with the first team," he continued. "So that's exactly what I'm going to try and do next season and I'm looking forward to pushing on."

Guthrie has so far appeared twice for the Alex at senior level after originally making his debut against Swindon Town last October.
