Skipper doubtful for weekend

Crewe Alexandra are on their travels once again with a visit to mid-table Crawley Town this weekend.

"We consider ourselves as outsiders but we will keep going to see how far it can take us" - Steve Davis
The Alex have a major doubt over skipper Luke Murphy (groin) while winger Byron Moore (dead leg) and on loan midfielder Brad Inman (ankle) are also currently sidelined. Chuks Aneke and Ollie Turton are therefore on stand-by for inclusion.

Leading goalscorer Mathias Pogba is another unavailable for the game after joining up with the Guinea national squad following his midweek two-goal salvo against MK Dons.

Better news is that teenage striker Max Clayton came through playing almost an hour for the England Under-19s last night and rejoins the squad as the visitors look to keep their play-off hopes alive.

"We consider ourselves as outsiders but we will keep going to see how far it can take us," manager Steve Davis told Crewe's official website. "There is still a lot of football to be played yet and one or two teams that are in the top places at the moment could still slip away, at this crucial stage of the season.

"The pressure increases on those teams at the top and sometimes it is that team having that late run that can grab a spot," he added. "We did that last season in the league below."

Skipper Josh Simpson (ankle) hopes to return for Crawley after a month out but Welsh Under-21 defender Joe Walsh and on-loan Republic of Ireland striker Aiden O'Brien are both away on international duty.
