Davis to check on squad

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis will closely assess the fitness of his squad for the weekend visit of Stevenage.

"I have spoken with the players and told them they need to be honest with me" - Steve Davis
His biggest concern at the moment is in goal, where the experienced Steve Phillips is currently struggling with a groin injury and could be replaced by Alan Martin.

A heavy schedule of three games in six days, including a couple away from home, have left understandably a few tired legs in the camp. Following the visit of Stevenage on Saturday, the Alex at least have a week off until travelling to the capital to meet Leyton Orient.

"We will have a look at them when they get back in today," Davis told Crewe's official website. "I will have a word with [physio] Rob Sharp and see what sort of shape they are in. We will look to take care of them.

"I have spoken with the players and told them that if they are mentally or physically tired then they need to be honest with me," he added. "We have that sort of relationship and they will make the right decision for the team."
