Crewe Alexandra are looking to maintain their recent progress when travelling to former leaders Tranmere Rovers on Boxing Day.

"Ajay will take a little bit longer, mainly because he's been out for such a long time" - Steve Davis
The Alex have midfielder Abdul Osman in contention after recovering from a knee injury while goalkeeper Alan Martin (flu) and Kelvin Mellor should also be available.

Striker AJ Leitch-Smith is similarly on the way back from a foot injury and could be included on the bench.

"Kelvin isn't quite match fit, but he's been training longer than Ajay has and he's looking stronger each day," manager Steve Davis told This is Staffordshire. "Ajay will take a little bit longer, mainly because he's been out for such a long time. To expect him to come back in one week is too much.

"We'll ease him in and if that means putting him on the bench and using him as an impact player, he can do that," he continued. "He can change a game."

Tranmere are without a win in six league games and surrendered their leadership of the division following their recent 5-0 hammering at Swindon Town.

But they could be boosted by the return of skipper James Wallace from medial knee ligament damage.
