Deal well-earned says Davis

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis believes goalkeeper Alan Martin was fully-deserving of his new and improved eighteen-month contract.

"We felt he was underachieving as a player, content with sitting around and not challenging" - Steve Davis
The 23-year-old Scot had been restricted to a short-term deal since the start of the season but has nonetheless gone on to feature in every league game so far following the recent absence through injury of experienced regular Steve Phillips.

"He's really reacted to what we said in the summer," Davis told the Crewe Chronicle. "We felt he was underachieving as a player, content with sitting around and not challenging Steve enough.

"But he came back fit and raring to go and he's shown us what he can do," he added. "What we did in the summer has now made him realise that."
