Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis hailed what he described as their best away performance of the season following a 3-1 victory at Preston North End.

"That was probably our best away performance of the season" - Steve Davis
Skipper Luke Murphy's opener was added to by on loan Newcastle United youngster Brad Inman and top scorer Mathias Pogba early in the second-half before their opponents snatched a late consolation.

Davis had earlier decided on a revised formation having been deprived of the services of the suspended Matt Tootle.

"That was probably our best away performance of the season with the way we played and especially as we changed the shape as well," Davis told Crewe's official website. "We played for three centre-halves and that is not like Crewe but we wanted to take them by surprise a bit today and I think we did that."

Meanwhile, Davis revealed that he will be extending striker Lauri Dalla Valle's loan spell from Fulham next week. The Finnish Under-21 international actually missed out at Deepdale due to a foot injury.

"We have agreed to extend Lauri's loan for another month," he added. "He wants to stay here, he is enjoying it and he wants to play as much as he can."
