Alex ready to shuffle pack

Crewe Alexandra are likely to make changes for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie with Doncaster Rovers at Gresty Road this evening (kick-off 7.30pm).

Goalkeeper Steve Phillips is expected to be handed a first start of the season while there could also be places for Adam Dugdale, Michael West, Max Clayton and recent signing Brad Inman.

The Alex should be in confident mood despite their weekend FA Cup defeat to Burton Albion after already triumphing 2-0 on their travels against their latest opponents only last month. Doncaster have though improved recently with four wins in their last six games.

"You do not get your rewards until the latter rounds, unlike the FA Cup," Crewe manager Steve Davis told This is Staffordshire. "But this is still a good competition and a great opportunity to get to Wembley. We want to do well, even though the priority will remain the league.

"We had a tough game away at Doncaster, a really hard and physical game and they will want to put that result right," he continued. "But we were up for the fight then and we will be again. And it would be nice, if we can get through, to get Port Vale in the next round. That would add a bit of interest."

Doncaster are currently missing the services of injured trio Martin Woods, David Syers and Kyle Bennett, while Jamie McCombe, Tommy Spurr, Michael Woods and Robbie Blake are all struggling with illness.

Elsewhere, Paul Keegan is suspended after collecting his fifth caution of the season at the weekend but James Harper, Andy Griffin, Iain Hume
and David Cotterill return.
