Striker available for weekend

Crewe Alexandra are back on their travels this weekend and chasing a fourth successive triumph when visiting struggling Shrewsbury Town.

"They've been a bit unlucky, creating chances but not scoring enough goals" - Steve Davis
The Alex have already emerged with a victory from the same venue once this season when earning a 2-1 success in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy early last month.

Teenage striker Max Clayton is again available for selection after returning to training following a recent groin injury. He was joined by winger Ryan Colclough, although it's too early yet for the seventeen-year-old as he continues his recovery from a fractured jaw.

Elsewhere, Michael West is considered doubtful with illness and AJ Leitch-Smith still sidelined by an ankle injury.

Shrewsbury are without a win in six games, five of which have been lost - including in the FA Cup at non-league Hereford United. That has currently left them just one place off the bottom of the table.

"It's not too much of a surprise to see promoted teams near the bottom of League One as it's a tough division," Alex manager Steve Davis told This is Staffordshire. "They came up with us and Swindon, and although their spending power is not as much as Swindon's it's more than ours, so it's about the players they had last season adapting to the higher level.

"They've been a bit unlucky, creating chances but not scoring enough goals, which is a key factor in why they are where they are," he added. "When we weren't scoring, like we have been in our last three games, we were in a similar position."

Former Alex striker Luke Rodgers could earn his first start for the hosts after recently returning to the club.
