Former Crewe Alexandra youngster Nick Powell won his first England Under-21 cap against Northern Ireland on Tuesday evening.

The eighteen-year-old who joined Manchester United in a 6m deal over the summer was part of the side earning a 2-0 victory against their
Northern Ireland counterparts at Bloomfield Road.

Sunderland's Connor Wickham headed the hosts into the lead from Jordan Henderson's free-kick just before half-time.

But it took until fourteen minutes from time before substitute Benik Afobe added a second from the penalty spot after being brought down by Irish goalkeeper Conor Devlin.
