Crewe Alexandra defender Mark Ellis is targeting a place in the FA Cup third round as his side open their campaign this weekend.

"The Third Round is definitely the aim" - Mark Ellis
The Alex entertain struggling second division side Wycombe Wanderers in the opening round at Gresty Road after exchanging places with the Chairboys in League One this season.

However, the hosts haven't actually progressed beyond the first stage of the competition in each of the last three seasons and last reached the third round in 2009 - when narrowly losing to Millwall after a replay.

"The Third Round is definitely the aim that is where anybody in the competition at this stage is aiming for," Ellis admitted to
Crewe's official website. "But that is a long way away from now because we have a tough game against Wycombe.

"They were in the league above us last season, and while they have gone down and not done quite as well so far this year, they still have some good players who can hurt us," he warned.
