Davis taking nothing for granted

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis was hoping to see his side improve on their recent dismal FA Cup record when hosting League Two Wycombe Wanderers at Gresty Road this weekend.

"No result is guaranteed and they will come here fighting to get through" - Steve Davis
The Alex have tumbled out of the competition at the opening stage in each of the last three years after disappointing defeats to Colchester United, Tamworth and York City.

Midfielder Abdul Osman (ankle) and striker Max Clayton (groin) could both recover in time for the hosts but forward AJ Leitch-Smith (ankle ligaments) remains sidelined.

"You want a good cup run, we are due a good run and it's nice to have a home draw," Davis told This is Staffordshire. "We haven't played Wycombe since the season before last and they've obviously had difficulties in the past couple of years.

"They've got a new manager who has a tough job down there, but league form counts for nothing in the FA Cup," he added. "Some surprises always spring up. No result is guaranteed and they will come here fighting to get through. We need to be prepared for that."

Former Alex striker Joel Grant is expected to return as the visitors are currently missing the likes of Jo Kuffour (ankle), Dean Morgan (hamstring) and on loan midfielder Bruno Andrade (knee). But Matt McClure hopes to recover from a hamstring injury.
