Burnley appointment ends Davis speculation

Burnley have announced the appointment of former Watford boss Sean Dyche as their new manager.

That will come as very welcome news to Crewe Alexandra supporters after their own manager Steve Davis had been regularly linked with his former club over the past couple of weeks.

Dyche therefore replaces Eddie Howe at Turf Moor after he elected on a return to AFC Bournemouth earlier this month.

Both Crewe's Davis and Steve Lomas of St Johnstone were amongst those being mentioned as a likely target for the Clarets, which prompted the Alex chief to earlier this week insist he was perfectly happy at Gresty Road and keen to see the job through.

Burnley are currently fourteenth in the Championship but have the worst defensive record in the division having conceded 29 goals in their first thirteen games.
