Davis will target midfielder

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis wants to sign a new midfielder on a permanent basis in the next transfer window.

"I would prefer to bring someone in with a bit of experience and on a permanent basis" - Steve Davis
Davis will make a central playmaker his number one target after so far managing with just skipper Luke Murphy and Abdul Osman this season, plus youngster Ollie Turton offering back-up.

That follows the loss of influential former captain Ashley Westwood to Premier League Aston Villa at the end of August. Davis has been regularly checking for a possible replacement ever since.

"I bought Abdul in during the pre-season because I felt we could lose Westy in the window," Davis explained to Crewe's official website. "That proved to be a shrewd move because that is what happened but we are still short in that area.

"I would like to bring in another one and we are looking around," he added. "I would prefer to bring someone in with a bit of experience and on a permanent basis."
