'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We must pick up tempo - Davis

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis insists his side must start much better against Walsall this weekend.

"You cannot afford to concede two early goals away from home and expect to get much from the games" - Steve Davis
It follows the Alex finding themselves two goals behind inside twenty minutes of their last game against Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

That also proved to be the final scoreline despite the visitors improving after the break. However, Davis naturally wants no repeat this time around.

"It is important to see what the reasons were for us not starting well enough at Portsmouth," Davis told Crewe's official website. "We have done that a couple of times this season, away at Brentford and at home to Oldham where the players were caught out by the tempo a bit.

"We have to be in a better frame of mind to handle that and that is something we have spoken about because you cannot afford to concede two early goals away from home and expect to get much from the games," he warned.
