Skipper an increasing threat

Skipper Luke Murphy is now showing the ability to dictate the tempo of games says manager Steve Davis.

"He is controlling games better now and getting on the ball" - Steve Davis
The 22-year-old was named as successor to Ashley Westwood at Gresty Road following his recent move into Premier League with Aston Villa.

And now manager Davis is expecting him to consistently prove a similarly key performer in the middle of the pitch, as he did in the midweek win at Shewsbury Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

First Murphy opened the scoring when following up from Max Clayton and then struck the crossbar before the teenager went on to add a second in the 2-1 success at the New Meadow.

"He is controlling games better now and getting on the ball and as a manager I know what to expect from him and what I am going to get from him," Davis told Crewe's official website. "He scored a real poachers goal to get on the rebound from Max's shot on Tuesday. He also had a great shot that hit the bar and he is beginning to be a goal threat."
