Too many passengers says Davis

Manager Steve Davis was left desperately disappointed following a second successive defeat against Oldham Athletic at Gresty Road.

"You can't afford to carry players at any level and that's what we did tonight" - Steve Davis
Despite their lowly position and poor record so far this season the visitors were always in charge and James Tarkowski and Matt Derbyshire took advantage of that superiority on the way to a deserved 2-0 success.

"We got what we deserved; we weren't at the top of our game," Davis admitted to Crewe's official website. "You can't afford to carry players at any level and that's what we did tonight.

"Silly mistakes cost us for the goals, but we didn't create enough either," he added. "Credit must go to Oldham though because they worked very hard for their manager and we couldn't live with them at all tonight."

Crewe must immediately bounce back from their latest setback when entertaining Hartlepool United at the weekend.
