Max enjoys hero comparison

Crewe Alexandra striker Max Clayton is naturally enjoying recent comparisons to his own hero Michael Owen.

"When I was at school he was the front player I wanted to be like" - Max Clayton
The eighteen-year-old has regularly displayed the same kind of movement and skills that was always evident from an early stage with Owen, who recently joined Stoke City following a frustrating spell with Manchester United.

Clayton's excellent progress has certainly not gone unnoticed and he was honoured earlier this week with the Football League's Young Player of the Month award for August. He also received a first call-up for the England Under-19 side for their latest game in Germany.

"When I was at school he was the front player I wanted to be like, with his movement, goals and the way he handled himself," Clayton told
This is Staffordshire. "The way he plays is how Dario Gradi wanted me to try to emulate a few years ago, on the last shoulder of the defender. But to be spoken of in the same sentence is amazing."
