Crewe Alexandra's talented young forward Max Clayton has been named as the Football League's Young Player of the Month Award for August.

"The last one I won was one of Dario's for trickster of the week when I was about nine years old!" - Max Clayton
The eighteen-year-old enjoyed an excellent month in which he was called up for the England Under-19 side against Germany in Hamburg.

He was also on target twice against Hartlepool United in the League Cup while adding an important winner as the Alex overcame Coventry City in the league.

His former colleague Nick Powell, who recently scored on his Manchester United debut, claimed the same award at the end of last year.

"It is a great honour to receive the award. I don't have that many at home," Clayton told Crewe's official website. "I think the last one I won was one of Dario's for trickster of the week when I was about nine years old!"
