Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis is hopeful of being able to bring in a couple of young loan players from Arsenal ahead of the visit of League One leaders Tranmere Rovers this weekend.

"They are on big money there and that is always a problem" - Steve Davis
The Alex are needing a replacement for Ashley Westwood after the midfielder signed for Premier League Aston Villa on the final day of the transfer window.

Meanwhile, Davis is also keen to acquire cover for summer recruit Mathias Pogba, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury.

The loan window reopens on Friday and while negotiations with the Gunners are said to be ongoing, Crewe could still find a problem matching the wages of their young targets.

"They are on big money there and that is always a problem," Davis told This is Staffordshire. "We are hopeful it will happen, but if it doesn't, we'll look elsewhere."
