Kelvin Mellor was simply relieved to get back into the action for the Capital One Cup tie at West Ham United earlier this week.

"There was no reaction to my injury, and I am just glad to be back" - Kelvin Mellor
The 21-year-old was forced to miss the whole of pre-season after recent ankle surgery until finally making a timely return to the starting line-up at Upton Park on Tuesday evening.

"It was great to my comeback and it was a great game to make my return in," Mellor told Crewe's official website. "It was a real test, but I thought I did okay - I just need match-fitness.

"There was no reaction to my injury, and I am just glad to be back, now it is about trying to keep my place," he added.

Mellor managed seventeen appearances for the Alex last season, including in their glorious play-off final victory at Wembley.

His form recently attracted an offer from Championship side Derby County until he turned it down in favour of a new two-year deal at Gresty Road.
