Davis pleased at response

Manager Steve Davis was pleased with the latest performance in the capital despite Crewe Alexandra eventually falling to a 2-0 defeat at Premier League West Ham United.

"The players worked hard, had their moments and gave it a real good go" - Steve Davis

The Alex recovered well from their 5-1 mauling against Brentford at the weekend for their testing Capital One Cup second round tie at Upton Park. However, it was still their higher-ranked opponents who progressed through courtesy of goals from former Crewe striker Nicky Maynard and Modibo Maiga.

"I am a much happier manager tonight than I was on Saturday," Davis admitted to Crewe's official website. "I had a pop at them on Saturday and told them that this was the perfect stage to put it right.

"I was obviously disappointed with the result and the fact that we have gone out at the competition," he continued. "The players worked hard, had their moments and gave it a real good go."

Davis will be expecting his side take that improvement into their next game when Coventry City visit Gresty Road this coming weekend.
