Embarrassed Davis apologises to fans

Steve Davis apologised to supporters after Crewe Alexandra crashed to a 5-1 defeat in the capital against Brentford at Griffin Park.

"It was a torrid afternoon for us and I am embarrassed by the result and the performance" - Steve Davis
Former Alex striker Clayton Donaldson struck twice for the hosts, whose opponents managed a solitary reply from Mathias Pogba early in the second-half.

Farid El Alagui also netted twice for the Bees and Harlee Dean was similarly on target as the visitors slipped to a second defeat in three games.

'It was a torrid afternoon for us and I am embarrassed by the result and the performance," Davis told Crewe's official website. "I must apologise to our crowd who had to watch that and if I was there I would have probably left at half-time, we were that poor."

"We never got going in the first-half and I sensed it in the warm-up," he added. "There was too much strolling around and not preparing properly."

Crewe will need to make a quick recovery from their disappointment and certainly prepare better when next visiting Premier League West Ham United in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday evening.
