Boss encouraged despite result
Manager Steve Davis took encouragement from a disappointing opening day as Crewe Alexandra finally surrendered their unbeaten run following a 2-1 victory by Notts County at Gresty Road.

"I was encouraged," Davis said to BBC Radio Stoke. "It was a disappointing result, but in terms of the attitude and application that they put in, and the fantastic amount of work they put in, I thought it was a decent performance.
"They [Notts County] didn't disappoint. I thought they were decent," he added. "We made one mistake and they punished us. That was the difference I think."
