Duo still hopeful
Crewe Alexandra duo Luke Murphy and AJ Leitch-Smith were still hoping to prove their fitness in time for the big weekend kick-off.
The pair have both returned during pre-season following recent injuries but after missing some training sessions are still short of real sharpness.
They shared ninety minutes in the midweek friendly victory over Barnsley, with broken toe victim Leitch-Smith being replaced at half-time by Murphy, who had been struggling with a knee injury.
"Luke and AJ are a bit behind because they have missed a bit of training and that is why they both played 45 minutes on Tuesday night," Davis told Crewe's official website. "We didn't want to push them too hard. They have had a day off after the game and have resumed training today."
Alex host Hartlepool United in the Capital One Cup this weekend before welcoming Notts County to Gresty Road for the opening game of the new league campaign seven days later.
