Mathias Pogba was again on target as Crewe Alexandra were held to a 1-1 draw in their penultimate pre-season game at Tamworth.

The former Wrexham striker crashed the visitors in front on six minutes after accelerating away from his marker and finding the bottom corner.

But their opponents were always well in the contest and struck the woodwork three times after the break, until being rewarded when Marcus Kelly equalised with six minutes remaining.

Alex earlier named youngsters Oliver Turton, Andy White and Brendan Daniels in their starting line-up while there was also a welcome return to action for midfielder Luke Murphy.

Tamworth striker Jean-Paul Marna appeared lively for the non-leaguers and threatened on a couple of occasions before their recent signing Peter Till also shot wide.

Crewe keeper Alan Martin then blocked well with his legs from the bustling Marna following the restart and the same player also had an effort ruled out for offside.

Adam Cunnington suffered a similar fate for the hosts after Scott Barrow struck an upright before Alex survived a major scare as Cunnington twice hit the woodwork with substitute keeper Ben Garratt frantically trying to block.

Garratt also had to turn a later attempt from Tommy Wright against the post before Kelly finally equalised on 84 minutes with a superb twenty-yard finish into the top corner.
