Single goal enough for Alex

Unbeaten Crewe Alexandra made it eight wins out of nine as Adam Dugdale grabbed the only goal against Huddersfield Town in their latest pre-season game at Gresty Road.

Dugdale appeared at the back post to meet a seventeenth-minute free-kick from Ashley Westwood and fire the winner past goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

Alex then defended well to keep out the threat of the prolific Jordan Rhodes, with a number of timely blocks before Max Clayton headed a Byron Moore cross wide at the opposite end.

Crewe's own hit-man Mathias Pogba soon threatened from another free-kick delivered by skipper Westwood, who also cleared the bar early in the second period.

Pogba then stabbed wide when supplied by substitute Brendan Daniels, and was later off-target from an attempted overhead kick before Daniels' shot was deflected behind.
