Crewe Alexandra's misfiring striker Shaun Miller is on his way to sign for Sheffield United for a fee of in the region of £70,000.

The 24-year-old travelled to Bramall Lane yesterday after Alex accepted an offer for a player still with a year remaining on his contract.

Miller enjoyed a very bright start to the campaign last season with six goals in eight games until losing his place and eventually failing to make the squad for Wembley in May.

However, he still managed 43 goals in 179 games for the club after originally progressing through their youth system.

"It's a good move for him, and I think the time is right because he wasn't a regular in the team and some of our younger players have gone past him," assistant manager Neil Baker told This is Staffordshire. "But we wish him all the best. He is one of our own who has done very well for this club."
