Baker backs 'right' decision
Assistant-manager Neil Baker remains sure Kelvin Mellor made the correct choice in rejecting Derby County and signing a new two-year deal at Crewe Alexandra.
That decision appeared to leave Rams boss Nigel Clough angry and claiming Mellor had already given him firm indications of wanting to move to Pride Park after stalling over Alex's initial offers.
However, Baker was having none of it and believes the 21-year-old defender can fully develop his obvious potential at Gresty Road.
"He wasn't ready to go to Derby, I don't care what anyone says," Baker explained to the Crewe Chronicle. "He got a great offer and turned it down to stay with us which was the right decision, believe-you-me.
"I don't think he wanted to go initially," he continued. "Maybe his agents thought the offer wasn't great from us and touted him round a bit. That's a part of the game you don't like - they're not giving the boy good advice by telling him to move to Derby."
