Alex hope striker can kick on

Crewe Alexandra hope that striker Shaun Miller's two-goal blast at Chasetown last night will give him a little extra self-belief in the build-up to the new campaign.

The 24-year-old lost his starting place over the second-half of last season after a very bright opening brought him six early goals. His name was eventually circulated to other clubs but nothing was to materialise despite some initial interest from an unnamed League Two outfit.

Now Miller must instead concentrate on forcing his way back into contention at Gresty Road and banish all memories of the disappointment of being left out of the Wembley play-off final winning squad in May.

"Shaun did well and he has been training well and playing well since we came back. That has been very encouraging for all of us," assistant manager Neil Baker told Alex's official website. "He has got amongst the goals again and his general play was better. His attitude has been excellent, He has trained well and played well."
