Many deem Pierluigi Collina to be the best referee the game of football has ever seen. Those many have never seen Jarnail Singh! You may have read in our Brighton Match Report that referee Jarnail Singh enjoyed a good game in the middle of the park. However, that would not do justice to the legend that is Jarnail Singh, or 'Monty Panesar' as Crewe fans affectionately adopted him.
Ok, ok, so we know Mr Singh is the best referee of all time. But just how did such a genius end up refereeing I hear you ask? Well, funnily enough, Vital Crewe knows the answer. As a youngster, Jarnail didn't harbour hopes of becoming a referee. In fact Jarnail began his footballing career as manager in the Midlands of a youth football team. Unfortunately for that team, but fortunately for the good of football and for all those who may ever partake in the sport, linesmen couldn't be guaranteed to turn up for Mr Singh's games. Therefore, being the thoughftul and generous man that Jarnail Singh is, he decided to learn the rules and attain the qualifications so he could step in when needs be. It is lucky that Jarnail Singh is such an honest man, as there are people out there who might exert their bias on the game when they are both the linesman and the manager of one of the teams.
Mr Singh is also a police officer, has two children and an 'understanding wife', according to the good man himself. Sadly, Mr Singh believes his age means that the Premiership may be beyond him due to his age. Should this prove to be the case, it would undoubtedly be one of the greatest travesties ever to afflict the game of football.
Jarnail Singh is now officially Vital Crewe's favourite referee of all time, and unofficially the best referee ever! We hope we see you again soon Mr Singh!
