Crewe Alexandra are moving closer to signing former Northampton Town midfielder Abdul Osman.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian is currently training with the club after a spell playing with Kerkyra in the Greek League.

Osman previously had a trial with Alex as a teenager back in January 2007 before eventually signing for Gretna. He later made in excess of a hundred appearances for Northampton over a couple of years, during when he netted the winning penalty in a shoot-out to beat Liverpool at Anfield in the League Cup.

"He's a player that was here five years ago and went on to have a decent spell with Northampton playing in League One and League Two," Crewe manager Steve Davis told This is Staffordshire. "He played in the top league in Greece and did well.

"He likes to play football and he's good on the ball," he added. "He's got training and one or two friendlies to impress and if we can sort something out financially we will do it."

Crewe Alexandra managed to give supporters a long-awaited victory in their final home game of the season against Doncaster Rovers.

Davis happy with finale

Manager Steve Davis was happy and doubtless very relieved to witness Crewe Alexandra complete their home programme with a 3-1 victory against Doncaster Rovers.

Crewe recover for victory

Crewe Alexandra came from behind for a first win in sixteen games and to drag Doncaster Rovers down into League Two with them for next season.

Kick-off was delayed by half-an-hour due to a waterlogged playing surface and Tommy Rowe gave the visitors the lead through a deflected strike.

However, youngster Callum Ainley equalised with his first senior goal before the break and Marcus Haber and substitute Brad Inman added second-half efforts.
