Phillips tasks himself with finding a star
Goalkeeper Steve Phillips' first priority is to hold onto the number one position at Gresty Road.
But after signing a new two-year deal that also incorporates him coaching Alex's other keepers, the 34-year-old has another burning desire - to find a youngster who can generate the club millions.
Crewe have always had a great reputation of developing young players and then selling them on for major profit, with Nick Powell being the perfect example after recently joining Manchester United in a deal that could eventually net them as much as £6m.
But they have never managed the same level of success with a goalkeeper - something that taskmaster Phillips is keen to put right.
"People know I am a determined character and I will set out to try to sell a goalie," he told This is Staffordshire. "That's my aim; that's the name of the game, to make them good enough to be sold, not perhaps for Nick Powell money, but if we can get a keeper sold to a big team in the next two or three years I've done my job."
