Experienced goalkeeper Steve Phillips has signed a new two-year deal at Crewe Alexandra.

The 34-year-old was an ever-present as Alex swept to promotion through the play-offs last season and now remains at Gresty Road until the summer of 2014. He will combine playing with a role as academy goalkeeping coach

Manager Steve Davis was understandably delighted at the news: "Steve has signed and obviously everyone is pleased with that," he confirmed to Alex's official website. "He has signed a new two-year deal and that will involve a coaching role within the Academy as well.

"He wanted to develop his coaching and he is excited at the prospect of being able to coach the goalkeepers here and help bring the younger ones through," Davis added. "First and foremost he is player here and will start as the number one. It is up to the others to push him."
