Crewe Alexandra have completed their first summer signing with Torquay United centre-back Mark Ellis arriving for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old defender has passed a medical and agreed a two-year deal at Gresty Road. At 6' 2" in stature, the commanding Ellis is viewed as an ideal replacement for skipper David Artell following his release at the end of last season.
"Crewe's valuation was the same as our valuation and it became clear in the end that Mark preferred the Crewe option to staying with our club," Gulls manager Martin Ling told Torquay's official website. "I don't think there was a big difference in wages but Mark sees Crewe as a progressive club in the league above us."
Ellis originally began his career as a trainee at Exeter City and later moved on to Bolton Wanderers before his 136 apperances and twelve goals for the Devonians.
