Davis aiming high with Alex

Alex chief Steve Davis says he was flattered to be linked with the recent managerial vacancy at Birmingham City.

The 46-year-old had been regarded as an outside bet for a role that was eventually filled by former Huddersfield Town supremo Lee Clark.

However, Davis couldn't be happier continuing his own development at Gresty Road after successfully guiding the club to promotion last season.

"Maybe it's a compliment. I'm not sure where the rumours came from," he told This is Staffordshire. "I had a text from a friend when I was on holiday saying something had been said. I've had no contact with Birmingham. It was just a bit of speculation.

"I've got no desire to leave Crewe or step up anywhere yet or anything like that. But people who know me know I'm ambitious," Davis added. "I want to manage at the highest level I possibly can. That won't go away, and I want to do it with this club."

Davis has only been in the role for seven months but has already received tremendous praise for completely turning Crewe's fortunes around in such a short length of time.
