Alex set for first signing
Crewe Alexandra are close to signing Torquay United centre-back Mark Ellis for a fee of in the region of £80,000.
The Gulls had rejected an initial offer from Alex as they prepare for life back in League One. But the return from holiday of manager Steve Davis has swiftly moved proceedings on.
"We are in advanced talks, not far away in terms of a transfer fee, and hopefully it will develop over the next day or two." Davis told This is Devon. "Something will get sorted."
Ellis, 23, had earlier indicated his only reason to leave Plainmoor would be for a higher level of football.
He originally began his career as a trainee at Exeter City and later moved on to Bolton Wanderers before his 136 apperances and twelve goals for the Devon side.
