Defender delighted to re-sign

Young defender Olly Turton is really looking forward to the future after signing a one-year contract extension with Crewe Alexandra.

The 19-year-old academy full-back managed a few brief appearances last season and is currently on the fringes of the senior squad at Gresty Road.

He says that Alex continues to be the ideal place for youngsters to fully develop after seeing team-mate Nick Powell become the last product to move higher following a dream move to Manchester United only last week.

"There's no doubt I was going to sign. It's the best place to be," Turton told the Crewe Chronicle. "Nick's move shows what the club's about. It puts another on the list. They just keep on making [good] players.

"I've had a few chances this season and hope I can get a few more next season. I want to get as much football as I can," he added. "I've just got to work hard in training and show the manager what I can do. But you know at Crewe they'll always put a young one in."
