Compensation may cool interest

Crewe Alexandra may still make a move for Swindon Town's 20-year-old forward Billy Bodin after manager Steve Davis revealed recent talks with the player.

However, to achieve that Alex would be required to pay a compensation fee as Bodin is under the age of 24 and has already been offered a new deal at the County Ground. He was previously sent out on loan to Crewe and Torquay United last season and both clubs remain interested in the Welsh Under-21 international.

"I had a conversation with Billy last week to clarify where he was with Swindon," Davis confirmed to Crewe's official website. "He has been offered a new two-year contract by them so a fee would be involved.

"He is very much in the Crewe mould and could be the ideal replacement if we cannot come to an arrangement with Byron [Moore]," he added. "He can play on both wings and has played in behind the front man as well."
