Dream come true for teenager

Dream come true for teenager

Departing Crewe Alexandra starlet Nick Powell says signing for Manchester United is a dream come true.

The teenager has completed a move to the Premiership giants that could eventually net Alex up to £6m.

He scored sixteen goals last season, including the Wembley strike against Cheltenham Town in the play-off final.

"It really is a dream come true to be signing for Manchester United," Powell told BBC Stoke. "I have had a great time at Crewe and I would like to thank them for helping me to develop as a player over the past 13 years.

"I'm excited about continuing my development with Sir Alex and the world class players in the squad," he added. "The thought of making the step up to the Premier League next year is an exciting prospect. I can't wait to get started."

But there is no propsect of Powell making an immediate return to Gresty Road on loan.

"One thing I can confirm is that he won't be coming back here on loan," Alex manager Steve Davis admitted. "That wouldn't be part of it because we want to bring in a replacement of our own."

Crewe Alexandra managed to give supporters a long-awaited victory in their final home game of the season against Doncaster Rovers.

Davis happy with finale

Manager Steve Davis was happy and doubtless very relieved to witness Crewe Alexandra complete their home programme with a 3-1 victory against Doncaster Rovers.

Crewe recover for victory

Crewe Alexandra came from behind for a first win in sixteen games and to drag Doncaster Rovers down into League Two with them for next season.

Kick-off was delayed by half-an-hour due to a waterlogged playing surface and Tommy Rowe gave the visitors the lead through a deflected strike.

However, youngster Callum Ainley equalised with his first senior goal before the break and Marcus Haber and substitute Brad Inman added second-half efforts.
