Alex gain promotion!

After beating Southend over two legs, Crewe win promotion to League One after a 2-0 win over Cheltenham.

Sunday was certainly a day most Crewe fans will remember for the rest of their lives. After a long season of ups and downs, the Railwaymen fans, players and management took their place at Wembley.

Crewe started off strongly with Murphy and Powell coming close, at this point Cheltenham seemed like they had little to offer. In the 14th minute the boy genius struck again. Powell received a simply ball from Mellor before swerving and shooting into the right side of Cheltenham`s net. It was the least Crewe deserved after a strong start. It was a fantastic goal that could happily grace any league in the world.

Following on from the goal came a strong period of domination from Cheltenham. They threatened the goal on numerous occasions, yet amazingly they could not find a way past Steve Phillips.

In the second half Crewe started to take charge of the game again. Then with 10 minutes left on the clock, Crewe winger, Byron Moore exchanged passes with Ajay Leitch-smith before sliding home past the devastated Cheltenham keeper, cue celebration on the pitch and from the thousands of railwaymen in the stands.

The game finished 2-0 as the Alex returned to League One for the first time in 3 years.
