Davis: Maybe we ran out of luck

Steve Davis was disappointed that Crewe didn't manage to secure all three points against Northampton at the weekend, but settled for one in the end.

The Crewe manager has admitted that 'luck' may have run out for his side, with them having their fair share of this recently.

He was unhappy with the goal Crewe conceded though as he felt it could have been avoided: 'maybe we ran out of luck as we have had quite a lot lately, but we've earned our right to be in contention for the play-offs after going 10 games unbeaten.

'It was on a par with our best performances in terms of the tempo and the passing and our defending was very good in the first half, especially when dealing with their long throws.

'But I was disappointed with their goal. We weren't marking properly and Steve Phillips should have stayed on his line.'

Crewe did have an injury-time opportunity to win the points but Danny Shelley saw his penalty saved by Neal Kitson.

Davis refused to blame Shelley, and preferred to offer praise to Kitson for the save: 'Danny was the best man for the job so I've got no regrets. The keeper has made a brilliant save and he was great for them all afternoon.

Did Crewe finally 'run out of luck' as Davis suggests?
