Smith Move To City In Doubt
The latest of Crewe's generation of 'wonderkids', attacking midfielder Dan Smith, appeared all set to move to Manchester City this week after the Citizens' long-term attempts to sign the Newcastle-Under-Lyme-based youngster finally resulted in a fee being agreed between the two sides.
It is believed that Smith's agent has long been touting him to the Premier League Giants and the Alex were eventually worn down under pressure from the multi-Billionaires.
A £300k up-front offer was accepted by the Railwaymen hierarchy with Academy Director and club legend Dario Gradi at the centre of negotiations. A number of future add-ons were also included.
However, it is understood that Smith was back in training at Reaseheath this morning after failing a medical in Manchester, and his future now appears unclear.
It really is a case of 'watch this space' on this one. If the club could keep hold of one of its most promising youngsters for years, this would of course be a huge bonus. However, if he has a serious long-term medical concern perhaps we should hope another bid comes our way shortly.
